It’s been quite the year for Cactus Plant Flea Market. The elusive streetwear brand has been steadily rising thanks in part to co-signs from the likes of Pharrell, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Travis Scott. On top of the fact that the label’s surprise product drops sell out instantly, CPFM has also masterminded several hit Nike sneakers in recent months. (Please see the trippy smiley face-adorned Air VaporMax for reference.) This week, the latest CPFM x Nike sneaker has arrived—and it’s just as weird and wonderful as you’d expect.
Under Nike’s “By You” custom sneaker program, the collaborative kicks smash the iconic Air Force 1 together with an eye-catching motif from the Swoosh’s lesser-known (but no less fiercely loved) Air Uptempo model. If the large outlined letters look familiar, you were likely a fan of Scottie Pippen back in the 1990s. (Also, the chunky 1990s basketball sneaker got a profile boost back in 2017 thanks to a collaboration with New York streetwear juggernaut Supreme.) As a brand, CPFM is no stranger to funky typography and out-there graphics, which makes this mashup sneaker feel like a perfect fit. Through the “By You” platform, customization options for the shoe include a nylon or leather tongue, “FLEA,” “SUNSHINE” or “AIR” graphic lettering and the choice to pick from seven reflective underlay colors.
